As the prior year comes to a close and the start of a new year approaches, it's always a great time to reevaluate our lifestyle choices and prioritize goals for the new year. Health and wellness tend to be on everyone's list! A detox is a great way to kick-start any healthy lifestyle goals, whether it be a workout commitment or new diet choice. A cleanse program will not only detox you physically, but it will also mentally get you into the right mindset to start tackling your new goals. The benefits of a cleanse program are many, including removal of toxins, enhanced digestion, organic weight loss, immunity boosting, increased energy, mental clarity, and hydration. However, in order to reap all the great benefits of a cleanse, you need to stick to it. Check out the tips below from my new book Souping to help you stick to yours!
1. Choose the right cleanse for you.
Set yourself up for success by picking a cleanse program that is feasible for you to accomplish. If you've never cleansed before, start with a shorter cleanse so you know you can stick with it and won't feel frustrated.
2. Get a friend, colleague, or partner to join you.
Having someone to be accountable to will not only keep you on track, but will make the whole experience more enjoyable! Comparing notes and having someone to look to for support will keep you going.
3. Clear your social calendar.
Don't put yourself in a position to be tempted by others who are eating and drinking. Pick a time to cleanse when you know that you don't have any pending social obligations.
4. Prep, prep, prep.
Make sure you prepare for your cleanse by making changes to your diet three days prior to your start date. This will make it an easier transition, and won’t shock your system. Start eliminating dairy, poultry, meat, and processed foods. Cut back on caffeine. Pump up your intake of fruits, veggies, and water. Eliminate alcohol and tobacco.
The day before your cleanse, make sure you have all the components ready so you can just grab and go. Having your cleanse easily available will deter you from straying from it.
Make sure to have plenty of filtered water on hand to sip during your cleanse. Often times thirst is mistaken for hunger, so drink up! Water also aids in the detoxification process. You can even mix it up by adding fresh ginger and lemon juice to your water or stocking up on your favorite herbal teas.
Happy New Year and happy cleansing! Here’s to a new you in 2016!
