When night falls, Lisbon lights up, as locals and visitors alike head out to explore the city’s vibrant bars and stylish nightclubs. From rooftop bars to the coolest clubs, we’ve handpicked our favourites to take you beyond Bairro Alto and get your night off to a great start.
Lisboa Rio
Cais do Gás - Armazém A - Cais do Sodré
The view is the star at this stylish Mediterranean restaurant and bar, with its stunning terrace overlooking the city’s dock. If you visit on a weekend, you’ll also witness its transformation into an upscale nightclub that hosts DJs from all over the world.
MOME
Avenida 24 de Julho 68
If you’re looking for an energetic, diverse crowd and great traditional Portuguese food, we think you’ll love MOME. One of Lisbon’s largest clubs, it draws a wide range of visitors and is spread across three floors. Its excellent restaurant is an added bonus.
K Urban Beach
Cais da Viscondessa, 1200-109
The riverside location, quirky beach concept and spectacular views aren’t the only things to love about this entertainment complex in trendy Santos - our favourite feature is the pool terrace. In between dips, you can explore the venue’s three dancefloors, to a soundtrack provided by a varied succession of guest DJs.
LuxFrágil
Cais da Pedra, Avenida Infante Dom Henrique
On the lookout for Lisbon’s most stylish nightclub? We think LuxFrágil is a definite contender. Head to this former warehouse by the harbour to discover a varied scene, where some of the hottest DJs from the city and beyond set the tone across a downstairs dance floor, upstairs bar/dance area and rooftop terrace, all with a striking retro aesthetic.
Lounge
Rua Moeda 1, 1200-275
Tucked away in an alley, Lounge is a real find, and a favourite with the indie crowd. The bar’s relaxed atmosphere complements a sound defined by long-time resident DJ Mario Valente’s passion for indie, rock and electronic pop, plus a full programme of live bands.
Europa Sunrise
R. Nova do Carvalho 18, 1200-052
If your idea of a great night out involves knowing every single tune on the decks, you’ll never leave Europa’s dancefloor. Here, the DJs specialise in spinning an eclectic mix of popular club anthems and alternative favourites from 5am-10am: definitely one for night owls.
Incógnito
Rua dos Poiais de São Bento 37
For a casual vibe that will appeal to indie and dance fans alike, we’d recommend Incógnito. Somewhere between a bar and a club, this venue coolly displays no name on its door, and has been drawing crowds to listen to a mix of indie, synthpop, new wave, electronica and alternative sounds since the early 1990s.
Ministerium
Terreiro do Paço, Ala Nascente 72–73
Fans of techno and electronica will want to check out this chic nightclub. As well as one of the best locations in town, it boasts a sizeable dancefloor and bar and a stellar line-up that includes some of the world’s best DJs. If this sounds like a must for your itinerary, bear in mind that it’s only open Saturdays.
‘Pink Street’
Rua Nova do Carvalho
Once an area best avoided after dark, the Rua Nova do Carvalho (‘Pink Street’) has been reinvented with a new nickname and vibrant night-time scene to match its vivid colour. Here you’ll find classic dance clubs such as Jamaica alongside stylish new bars like Povo and Sol e Pesca and live alternative and world music venue Music Box - all of which make it an ideal destination for bar-hoppers.
The Dock’s Club
Rua da Cintura do Porto
If you’re looking for a classic dance venue, we love this well-known favourite on West Lisbon’s waterfront. Open three nights a week, this club hosts a Ladies’ Night on Tuesdays, live music on Fridays, plus the ever-popular Saturday Night Fever.
