Assistant Cartographer/ Cartographer

Purpose of Role:

  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and correct styling of all maps and Cartography-related materials related to Travel Guides or any other projects in DK

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to follow Cartographic style guides for each project, in terms of design, layout, scaling and accuracy of content.
  • To ensure that each map style, as specified by the travel guide/RG team and style guide is meticulously followed, so that careless mistakes are avoided.
  • Liaise with senior Cartographer and editorial/design/DTP to ensure that best working processes and methods of data management are followed, regarding all map and Cartographic materials on projects.
  • If required by Senior Cartographer, to liaise with UK Cartography division to solve day to day issues on Cartography and map-creation work.
  • Ensure that Cartography material is satisfactorily documented and returned to DK London for storing and archiving at the end of each project.
  • Cartographer will have additional responsibilities together with the responsibility of a senior Cartographer.
  • Ensure that schedules are maintained according to time tables set by the editorial and Design team.

 

Key Skills & Knowledge

  • Graduate in Geography/Geology from recognised institute/university.
  • 1-2 years experience in related field.
  • Knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, MS Word and Excel, and in file management and use of the servers.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan, monitor and control project costs for which you are responsible.
  • Ability to produce high-quality Cartography work accurately and speedily.
  • Fully competent in file management, use of the servers, Illustrator, Photoshop, In design, MS Word and Excel and, if required, Freehand.
  • Ability to work efficiently and harmoniously with other members of team.
  • Ability to supervise and train junior Cartography team.
  • Ability to solve day-to-day problems.
  • Ability to develop new projects
