DK India brings alive Bookaroo Delhi and Jaipur

“Do you know your Allosaurus from your Argentinosaurus?” That was what DK India was all about at Bookaroo, the Children’s literature festival this year. At the Delhi Bookaroo held at Sunder Nursery, there were two fun-filled sessions with activities, quizzes, and prizes for children of all ages. From conducting “Make your own dinosaur with clay” to “Guess the image in a fantastic Pictionary tournament”, DK turned out to be a hit at the event. We also participated in a special panel discussion on graphic novels meant exclusively for parents.

DK’s winning streak continued at the Jaipur Bookaroo, which was held at Jawahar Kala Kendra. We brushed shoulders with authors, illustrators, performers, and storytellers from different parts of India and even countries. It was heartwarming to see the children queue up well ahead of time, even as we were setting up the props. The session started with a quick introduction to DK before we immersed into discussing dinosaurs with the eager audience– how long ago they lived, what they ate, what they looked like, and how they went extinct.

This was followed by a dinosaur-making activity using modelling clay. And the creativity on display was stunning! The children happily made dinosaurs of all types without any reference---two-legged, four-legged, winged, club-tailed, with spikes on the back, and so on.

The final segment of the activity session had the children participating enthusiastically in Pictionary. As the session drew to a close, a lucky draw was held, and the winner got their hands on a DK book! With that, it was a wrap on Jaipur Bookaroo for this year. The Delhi and Jaipur chapters of the Bookaroo were fun-filled and fulfilling, and we already look forward to next year!
