5 Fierce Female Marvel Super Heroes

5 Fierce Female Marvel Super Heroes

It's not just the boys who have all the fun! The women of the Super Hero scene are just as busy smashing opponents, crushing crime, and doing more than their fair share of world-saving. (It’s a bit hard not to, what with all that superhuman strength and unstoppable power…)

Here are just a few of the most ferocious women of the Marvel universe.

1. Captain Marvel

Hard work, fierce independence and phenomenal willpower help Carol Danvers become Captain Marvel, one of Earth’s greatest heroes. Whether she’s soaring through space or facing foes, Captain Marvel’s first priority is to protect the planet. Her powers include flight, superhuman strength, durability, agility and the ability to fire energy blasts from her hands.

Fierce facts:

–Carol is a former Air Force Captain. Her military expertise makes her the ideal candidate to lead a new space defence program against alien threats with team Alpha Flight.

–Captain Marvel’s pet cat, Chewie, is actually a Flerken – an extremely dangerous, egg-laying alien who just happens to resemble Earth felines. Luckily, Chewie is just as cuddly as a typical kitty.

–In the Marvel Mangaverse, a nearly invulnerable Carol Danvers dons the costume, shield and moniker of Captain America!

2. She-Hulk

Lawyer Jennifer Walters is shot by a gang she is prosecuting in court, and her quick-thinking cousin, Bruce Banner, saves her life with a transfusion of his own gamma-radiated blood. Jen soon discovers that she can hulk out, too. But unlike Bruce, she remains intelligent when she changes into She-Hulk!

Fierce fact:

–She-Hulk works at the Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, and Holliway law firm. Martin Goodman, Stan Lee (formerly Lieber), and Jack Kirby (formely Kurtzberg) are three legends of Marvel!

3. Black Widow

The Black Widow is trained as a lethal sleeper agent by the K.G.B. and sent to the U.S. But her Russian spy career is short-lived – she turns away from skulduggery and uses her amazing espionage skills as a heroic Avenger! She is a master martial artist and acrobat, and a version of the Super-Solider serum keeps her in peak physical condition.

Fierce facts:

–Black Widow’s real name is Natalia Alianovna Romanova (a.k.a. Natasha Romanoff). The man who raised Natasha, Ivan Petrovich, becomes an insane cyborg, and she’s forced to destroy him!

–Black Widow’s famous Widow Bite (electric bolts that disable her enemies) can reach a max charge of 30,000 volts.

4. The Wasp

The Wasp’s powers include flight and superhuman speed. Most importantly, however, Pym Particles allow Wasp to grow and shrink at will, just like Ant-Man. Her insect-like wings sprout when she shrinks below normal size, and they’re absorbed by her body as she grows. She can also emit bio-electric blasts (“wasp stings”) from her hands to stun opponents.

Fierce fact:

–The Wasp is a founding member of the Avengers, inspiring her teammates with courage and determination. Her powers don’t hurt, either – at her max size, she can lift 30 tons!

5. Spider-Woman

Spider-Woman (real name: Jessica Miriam Drew) possesses spider powers, and the ability to fly, shoot energy blasts, resist poisons and emit mood-altering pheromones. Her body also naturally produces bio-electrical energy, which she channels into a powerful “venom blast”.

Fierce facts:

–Spider-Woman is a seasoned secret agent, going deep undercover for S.H.I.E.L.D., tracking down alien threats for S.W.O.R.D., and serving on the Secret Avengers team alongside Hawkeye, espionage expert Black Widow, and mad scientist M.O.D.O.K..

–Is Spider-Woman related to Spider-Man? Only through the web of life! Jessica Drew’s origins have nothing to do with Peter Parker’s radioactive spider bite.
