The DKfindout! lesson planner tool is free to use. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help get you started.
On the homepage, find the Teachers area and click 'Get Started'.
Here you'll be taken to the sign-in screen. Simply set-up an account by following the instructions – it's quick and easy.
DKfindout! is designed to be a flexible tool, so there a number of ways to start your lesson plan. The first is by clicking on ‘Start a New Lesson Plan’ on the main Teachers section screen.
You'll be taken to a blank lesson plan. Give your lesson a name by clicking 'Edit' next to the title. Then click 'Add more content'. Here you'll be taken to a summary of all the content on www.dkfindout.com. You can either explore it by subject or go to the top and search for a particular topic.
Once you've found a page you'd like to add just click on the page to open it.
The second way to start building your lesson plan is to use the search tool directly from your Teachers page. Just click on the search tool in the top left hand corner. From here you can select any pages you'd like to include in your plan.
Once you're on a page you'd like to add to your lesson plan, you need to make sure you have the DKfindout! Teachers toolbar. It's the blue toolbar on the right hand side of the screen (see below). From here just click 'Add to Plan'. Your page has been added!
Now you're ready to explore DKfindout! and add more pages to your plan. You can use the example plan or build your own. And remember – you don't have to go back to the Teachers area to search for new pages to include. You can use the search tool at the top of the page instead, and you can even add pages without going into them. Simply click the 'Add to Plan' button on the search summary page (the page looks like this).
DKfindout! makes it easy for you to add and remove pages from your lesson plan as you like. Again, you can do this in a number of ways. On the search summary, a 'Remove from Plan' button will appear on any pages that you've already added to your plan, and you can click simply click on this to remove them. If you're on a page, the Teachers toolbar will also give you this option.
At any point while building your lesson plan, you can view the final result. Do this by clicking on image of a person in the blue box on the top lefthand side of your screen. Or, click 'View Plan' on the Teachers toolbar on any page.
DKfindout! is designed to help make planning and researching your lessons much, much easier. The best way to get to grips with DKfindout!'s lesson plan is to give it a go. Once you've made your first plan, you can make as many more as you like. Happy planning!
