The DKfindout! lesson planner is free to use and here’s a step-by-step guide to help get you started.
DKfindout! lesson planner tool
On the homepage find the Teachers area and click 'Get Started'.
Here you will be taken to the sign-in screen. Simply set-up an account following the instructions - it doesn’t take long.
Searching for content
DKfindout! is designed to be a flexible tool so there a number of ways to start your lesson plan. The first is by clicking on ‘Start a New Lesson Plan’ on the main teachers section screen.
You will be taken to a blank lesson plan. Give your lesson a name by clicking on 'Edit' next to title. Then click on 'Add more content'. Here you will be taken to a summary of all the content on www.dkfindout.com. You can either explore it by subject or go to the top and search for a particular topic.
Once you've found a page you would like to add just click on the page to open it.
The second way to start your lesson plan is to use the search tool directly from your teachers page. Just click on the search tool in the top left hand corner. From here you can select any pages you would like to include in your plan.
Adding a page to your volcano lesson plan
Once you are on a page you would like to add to your lesson plan then you need to make sure you have the DKfindout! teachers toolbar. It is the blue toolbar on the right hand side of the screen (see below). From here just click on 'Add to Plan'. Then the page is added!
Create the rest of your lesson plan
Now you are ready to explore DKfindout! and add more pages to your plan. You can use the example plan or build your own. You don't have to go back to the teachers area to search for new pages to include. You can use the search tool at the top of the page. And you can even add pages without going into them. Simply click on the 'Add to Plan' button on the search summary page (the page looks like this).
Remove a page from your lesson plan
DKfindout! makes it nice and easy for you to remove a page from lesson page as well as add one. Again, you can do this in a number of ways. On the search summary, a 'Remove from Plan' button will appear on any pages which you've already added to your lesson plan. You can click simply click on this button to remove the page from the plan. Or if you are on a page the teachers toolbar will also give you this option.
View your lesson plan
At any point of building your lesson plan, you can view it. You can do this by clicking on the person image in the blue box in the top left hand side of your screen. Or you can do this by clicking 'View Plan' on the teachers toolbar on any page.
DKfindout! is designed to help you make planning and researching your lessons much, much easier. The best way to get to grips with DKfindout!'s lesson plan is to give it a go. Once you've made your first plan, you can make as many more as you like. Happy planning!
