1. Horses are measured in hands.

Horses

Horses are measured from their hooves to their withers (the highest point of the shoulders) in a unit called “hands.” One hand equals four inches. Some horses can be six feet tall!

2. There are more than 600 different pasta shapes!

A favorite around the world, pasta is made with very simple ingredients: eggs, flour, and water or olive oil. The different types of pasta are used for all kind of dishes. Bowtie pasta is perfect to eat with chunky vegetables while skinny linguine is great in creamy sauces to make sure every noodle is coated with flavor.

3. There were many gods in Ancient Egypt.

Mummification

Each town had their own local god. Atum, Lord of Heaven, was believed to have created everything. Anubis was the god of the dead, who had a jackal head and lead people to the afterlife. During mummification, the priests wore jackal masks as they wrapped the body with strips of fine linen soaked in resin.

4. The first cars were invented more than 130 years ago.

In 1901, only 600 cars were sold around the world. By 2014, yearly car sales reached 71 million. The best-selling car in the world is the Toyota Corolla. The world’s most expensive car is the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster. It costs $4.95 million and tops out at 221 miles per hour! Only nine were ever produced.

5. The Amazon Tropical Rain Forest is the largest rain forest in the world.

Golden Dart frog

Many of the most poisonous animals live in rain forests. The Poison-Dart Frog is very small with vividly colored skin that releases deadly toxins.
