Carol Vorderman | Educator & Broadcaster

We recently caught up with bestselling children's education author Carol Vorderman to chat back-to-school, flight school and times tables set to rock n' roll. Carol's newest title Help Your Kids With Study Skills is designed to encourage and motivate even the most reluctant students.

Science or maths?

Science I think. I love maths but I love to know the answers about the world, or what our current thoughts are about answers, as theory is often changeable.

What’s the best part of your day?

I love every part of every day. Sometimes it’s the early mornings before the rest of my world awakes, sometimes it’s the dawn after an all night party, sometimes in winter it’s a very, very long late lunch.

What are three objects you couldn’t do without?

My aeroplane. Flying completes me, and one of my few regrets in life is that I left it so long to learn, getting my first flying licence when I was 53. My juicer. I love drinking freshly made (mainly green) juices with avocado, to make them all creamy and gorgeous. And my bed. Bliss!

What’s the hardest part about being an educator?

Teaching your own children!!

What’s the most unusual day you’ve had on the job?

When we launched the Learn the Times Tables to rock and roll. Hundreds of children were dancing and singing out the answers. It was fantastic.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to reluctant students?

Keep at it. In maths there are many ways to get to the right answer. Learn your own strategies.

What’s something you never expected you would learn?

To not only to fly in the UK but around the world! It’s like a whole new degree level in itself. I love learning something brand new and challenging in real time.
